Need something to do? Here's a few suggestions

Tomorrow, sometime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. tell your boss you really need to go to the hospital, then slip into the classroom, just to your right as you enter Bonner General Hospital to see the Art Transplant Sale.

It’s the one day that you can purchase from over 50 pieces of original artwork that have been on display. Local artist Maria Larson will also be selling prints of her brilliant sailboat painting.

The Art for the Soul program, artfully directed by Polly Mire, exhibits national and local artists throughout the halls and departments of the hospital. Mire keeps the display refreshed and current by rotating the paintings for their best exposure to the public.

Then, check out the gift shop. Now that the peeps are gone from the Easter basket, treat yourself to the best - their exclusive See’s candies. And look around at the abundance of unique and clever gifts for all ages. This is not your typical hospital gift shop.

“We receive wonderful comments every day from our customers,” said manager Kim Courser. “Right now our shop is full of spring and summer merchandise. Come visit the best kept secret in Sandpoint.”

Now, go back to work. But if working outdoors appeals to you more, bring your rake and gloves to help the Healing Garden volunteers with Clean Up Days this Saturday the 21st and next Saturday the 28th.

“Come at 10 a.m.,” coordinator Linda Plaster said, “and we’ll work until 1 p.m. or until you want to leave. We’ll provide coffee and rolls, but if it’s raining, snowing, or really cold, we’ll move to the next week.”

If that causes too much stress, attend the workshop on Monday, April 23 in the hospital classroom on Stress Management. Brianna Thoreson will lead this workshop that’s part of the Foundation Board’s Wellness Series.

Speaking of the board, they in partnership with the Sandpoint Police Department and Idaho Conservation League continue their Drug Drop Off Program by joining with the National Take Back Day on April 28.

Although you can drop off expired or no longer needed drugs at the police station, 1123 Lake Street, any week day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the police department will staff that Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Help us take the opportunity out of pharmaceutical theft and please don’t put them down the sink nor in the toilet.

Two films of interest will be shown on May 5 and 6 respectively. The first is the 2006 movie called “Away from Her” spotlights the progression of Alzheimer’s.

This highly acclaimed film is a fundraiser for the Day Break center. It will be shown at the Panida at 6 p.m. and there will be hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.

“Forks over Knives” was shown here last year and is being brought back by popular demand on Sunday, May 6 at 4 p.m. at Community Hall. This documentary examines the claim that eating a plant based diet can control diseases.

“Who should attend?” organizer Alyce Ispirescu said, “Everyone! It may not convince everyone to change their diet completely, but it will make an impact in everyone’s health if they follow just some of the health principles presented.”

Now, who said they don’t have anything to do?
