Priest River athletes announce college commitments

| June 3, 2020 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — It certainly wasn’t your normal signing day, but the Spartans did what they could to make sure they honored their four senior athletes that will compete at the next level.

Priest River athletes Natalie Randolph, Maddy Rusho, Teagun Holycross and Jantzen Lucas all announced where they will be playing collegiately during the special signing day event last Thursday.

Randolph will play softball at Northland College, Rusho is heading to North Idaho College for golf, Holycross will run track at Montana and Lucas is going to Lewis-Clark State College for baseball.

Each athlete had already made their commitment public so the event was more of a celebration.

The blue sky and mid 70-degree weather coaxed Athletic Director Matt George into holding the event outside in the school parking lot against the gymnasium wall.

The scenic backdrop provided a much needed distraction for an event that was different due to the coronavirus pandemic.

To ensure proper social-distancing guidelines were followed, the event was spaced out. Every 20 minutes, one athlete and their parents and coaches arrived, posed for a photo and then left.
