4A DISTRICT 1-2 BASEBALL: Sandpoint comes up short against Moscow
MOSCOW — Drew Lehman, Finn Mellander, and Jesse Turner all had doubles for Sandpoint, but it was Moscow who clinched the 4A Inland Empire League district title with a 10-2 win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday.
In the top of the first inning is where Sandpoint scored both of their runs. Dallen Williams grounded into a fielder’s choice to score one. The very next at-bat, Jesse Turner drove a ball to deep left to score Williams. Mason Little and Lucas Hansen were also able to knock singles in the contest. Sandpoint trailed just 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Bears put up a seven-run frame to seal the deal.
“We had a lot of chances, but it just unraveled on us in the sixth,” head coach Ricky Klontz said. “We definitely didn’t have the season we wanted or expected, but I am super proud of how we finished the year. We competed really hard here at districts and gave ourselves a chance.”
