Prairie team, Schumacher honored

COEUR D’ALENE — Tribune area athletes and coaches brought home 17 awards from the North Idaho sports awards banquet Saturday at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Among the awards earned, Prairie’s Spencer Schumacher took home athlete of the year honors for the 3A-1A boys’ prep level. Schumacher and the Pirate boys’ basketball team were also honored for their state title with team of the year honors.

The squad the Pirates beat in the Idaho Class 1A Division I title game, Potlatch, was coached by Ryan Ball, the co-coach of the year at the Idaho Class 3A-1A level.

In the college ranks, the Lewis-Clark State men’s basketball team took home co-college team of the year honors after reaching the NAIA Final Four for the first time in school history.
