UCLA centerfielder Bubba Nickles hit a homerun on the first pitch UCLA saw for one of her five RBI as the Bruins run-ruled Missouri 9-1 in five innings in Los Angeles, in the third game of NCAA Regional play.
After Nickles home run, Missouri gave up two more runs in the first inning on another UCLA home run, and the Tigers trailed 3-0 after one inning.
No. 2 UCLA added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, four of them coming on Nickles’ grand slam. The Tigers added one run in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough and the game was called on the run rule.
Senior Madi Norman pitched all four innings for the Tigers, allowing nine runs, two earned, along with six hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Regan Nash had the only Missouri RBI, a single through the right side in the top of the 5th inning that scored Geana Torres.
Missouri played Weber State in the final elimination game of the day. The game started at 11 p.m. and was not over at the time of publication.
