This letter is in response to Michelle Marker regarding graduation attire. Since when has graduation day become about the parents or administration? Graduation day is supposed to be about the students who worked so hard to get to that turning point in their lives. It is their day. I am sure that the parents of those students who so "disrespectfully" walked barefooted, in pants, leis, or sandals, were encouraging their children to show individuality rather than conformity. Since when is individuality disrespectful?

In "Missing links, still missing" (May 29, 2005), Joanna Fuchs asserts, "There is no scientific empirical evidence supporting macroevolution." That will come as a surprise to the vast majority of the Earth and life scientists in this country, virtually all of whom (99 percent) have carefully examined the evidence and come to the exact opposite conclusion. In fact, every reputable scientific organization in the world endorses the theory of evolution because it is the only scientific explanation for biodiversity that is consistent with all the evidence.

America isn't trying to Christianize world

Bill Litsinger in his guest opinion on June 2, said America's foreign policy desire, among other things, was to democratize and Christianize the entire planet. I hope the American Civil Liberties Union doesn't find out about that. Our armed forces have a certain percentage of Moslems, not to mention everything else under the sun. The use of our Islamic personnel to force other Moslems to convert to Christianity would be a violation of church and state. Shoot, we have trouble converting our own nation.

Officials must provide facts for urban renewal district

A city of Sandpoint employee recently said to a citizen, "Anybody who opposes urban renewal districts is ignorant." This statement makes an important point. We are ignorant, and it is the responsibility of the city to fix that before a vote is taken on an urban renewal district.
