U.S. needs to change how it uses water

Sounds impressive, but when you factor in global population growth at 83 million each year, water demands to satiate the thirsts and fodder of foot and fauna to feed the masses, and the proverbial waste factor associated with humans, is there going to be enough?

We’ll write the stories of hills with any form of uphill transportation and those that had only a constructed ski jump. We’ve been working on the book for a year and have found lost areas in people’s neighborhoods, on their ranches, or along roads they often or sometimes drive.

Liberal commentary lacks any credibility
For once I agree with Bob Wynhausen: “Irresponsible behavior must stop immediately” (March 28 Bee). What must be stopped is Wynhausen’s looney, left wing drivel; that seeming endless supply of dimwitted commentary which has increasingly become and embarrassment to the community and an affront to every red-blooded, God-fearing, freedom-loving American in Bonner County. Someone need to tell the guy to put a sock in it.

How does your garden grow?
With Obamamonics in full play, lots of us are on unemployment and facing tough economic times. A garden is one way to reduce those high food bills. Before I get into this article, I must state that I’m not a “Master Gardener” or a “horticulturist.” That being said, I personally don’t think adding “Miracle Grow” or another chemical that gives a great flower; however, produces a fruit that is tasteless and low in nutrients is a good idea.

Gloss doesn't help area militia's image
Nice picture on the back of the Bee recently. It shows what the caption called the Idaho Lightfoot Militia after helping with the Kilt Run. Puts a nice spin on a group that at its core is nothing but a group of people who run around with guns and play like they are a military organization. (Which they are legally allowed to do.)

Sometimes water is needed to put out fires
I find it amusing that if you give tax breaks to the top 2 percent (who pay less as a percentage of their income than we do) that cost $1.8 trillion, lie us into an unnecessary war that in the end will cost an equal amount (not to mention the cost in life) and pass laws that trample on our constitution (Patriot Act) give hundreds of billions in tax breaks to send 20,000 companies off shore and charge it all to the deficit, deregulate banks and cause a mini depression and you hear not a peep from the right. Now if you try to do something for the poor or middle class it is communism, socialism and a complete government take over and internment camps are next.

Why can't Sandpoint take the lead on texting issue?
The 3 p.m. news just now on NPR stated the following: A driver who is driving 50 mph and texting will travel the length of a football field (300 feet) before looking up at the road again. Six thousand people were killed on the highways of the U.S. in 2008 as a direct result of texting while driving. Six thousand people. That’s nearly the entire population of the city of Sandpoint. It amounts to nothing less than an unnecessary slaughter.

Offenders must be kept off the streets
How many little girls have to be molested before the judicial system in Sandpoint, Idaho, feel like this pervert, Dayle Scott Westra, should be taken off the street. Would that be five little girls, six little girls, 10 little girls? How many would it take to get a life sentence and keep Dayle Scott Westra away from innocent children for the rest of his life. To sentence him to 20 years, knowing that he will be out in two and a half years does not give justice to a little girl whose childhood and innocence have been harmed. In two and a half years this young lady will be about 13, she will be looking over her shoulder knowing that her molester is out on the streets again. I guess we should be grateful he didn’t get probation in just six months. Absolutely disgusting.

Long Bridges span a century across lake
March 11, 1910, was a great day for the people living in our area of North Idaho. Before that date, 100 years ago, anyone wanting to cross the river from Sand-point to the Sagle area, or vice versa, had two options open to them. They could walk across the railroad trestle, which took a lot of time and was dangerous, or they could get someone to row them across the river, also time consuming. The difficulty in getting to Sandpoint was the reason most of the ranchers over Sagle way ordered their goods from Spokane and had them dropped by train.

Multiple safeguards will protect region
A recent judicial ruling in the US District Court of Montana has led to renewed speculation and misinformation about the proposed Rock Creek mine in Sanders County, Mont. While U.S. Federal Judge Malloy has set aside the 2003 Record of Decision, presumably for further review once he has rendered his opinion in the case, he has also upheld significant work that has been done by the agencies relating to the Endangered Species and Clean Water acts. Clearly, the body of work that has been done by environmental scientists has significant merit.
