Bike Routes to Benefit All
“How can we safely get a 10-year-old kid from the residential areas of Sandpoint to City Beach?”Answering that question was part of the Downtown Streets Plan and Design Guide process, which included more than 35 hours of public meetings and exhibits, 500 face to face conversations with community members and visitors, 40 hours of interviews with downtown stakeholders, various committee meetings, and collecting and analyzing more than 150 feedback forms. This input was distilled by an urban design company and the resulting suggestions were considered, modified, and adopted by the city in the fall of 2012. A copy of the adopted Design Guide is available on the home page of the city of Sandpoint’s website.

Let's debate reality instead of fantasy
With the situation in Syria heating up, we hear from the right the chants of a president that oversteps his boundaries or that Obama is somehow usurping the power of Congress or worse, that somehow our administration is corrupted by Islamic religious fundamentalist groups. I would like to address the front page article in the Bee (Aug. 29, 2013) titled “Details scarce in fatality at campground.” I had the privilege of knowing Kyle Garrett and actually met him in the backcountry of the Frank Church Wilderness in central Idaho at a primitive air strip and camp ground.

A young man and his two daughters have a caring, loving and protective 7-year-old companion named Shiloh. Shiloh plays, goes camping, watches from the yard for the bus to come home with her girls. Shiloh was taken to Animal Medical Care, where she was diagnosed with a tumor; there isn’t any hope for survival without surgery. The family is devastated.
