Dutson-Sater's record is poor
The record of county Clerk Ann Dutson-Sater in the year-plus since she was appointed speaks of incompetence and worse.
We must work to end child hunger
Sept. 30 came and went with little notice. For many, it’s just another day on the calendar. For me and other child hunger advocates around the country, it’s an important marker.
Political facts aren't letter writer's forte
Bob Wynhausen is quite the spinmeister! He has taken Ann Dutson-Sater’s misconduct case and tried to turn it into a sinister conspiracy. It’s ludicrous to think that the Boundary County magistrate, who found there was sufficient evidence to try the Bonner County clerk for a felony, would be part of a local cabal.
Collier shares stories of wartime service
SANDPOINT — There were more than a few moments as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam when Bill Collier didn’t think he’d make it out of the battlefield alive.
Vote Nels Mitchell for U.S. Senate
I have already voted for Nels Mitchell. If you haven’t voted yet, I encourage you to join me in voting for him.
Vote your values this Election Day
I used to be a Republican. Now I am now a “Blue-dog” Democrat. My values and principles have not changed. The Republican Party has moved away from me to the right.
What do we have to lose by voting D?
The election is Tuesday and we have the opportunity to vote to maintain the Republican government that has given us the second lowest per capita income in the United States (just ahead of Mississippi), and the fourth lowest per capita GDP. We rank near the bottom in state tax revenue and expenditures per capita and in spending on education.

SANDPOINT — Barlow Stadium at War Memorial Field has been the setting for some great playoff football through the years, and the home field advantage is significant.
Dutson-Sater is best pick for county clerk
Someone said: You can’t know a person without knowing their history.
We need to keep Keough in office
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Christian Fioravanti. He is a very pleasant young man but has a lot to learn about the important issues. He has a future, but needs to gain some experience in a lower level office. Starting as a senator for District 1 is not the place for him to begin. We have an experienced and senior senator in office, which is mandatory in today’s political atmosphere.
Our inner wisdom ignored in politics
Most people recognize the impersonal design features of a system impersonally dictate how it must be operated. The same also is true for a democracy. Elections are dictated by the design of the universe.
Candidate forums are a huge bust
Forums become travesties when voters are restricted from asking candidates legitimate questions.
Incumbents don't deserve support
It will be good when the election is over and all of those political signs that are scattered all over the county are removed. Do those politicos really think all of those signs will sway people into voting for them?
Ignorance is not a defense in clerk case
I am tired of reading that our current clerk made a mistake. She broke the law. Part of her job is to know about the processes that take place under her jurisdiction. If she didn’t understand the process she had easy access to the county attorney.
Kochava picked for state tax credit program
SANDPOINT — In the wake of a major business expansion, Kochava is working with the state of Idaho to push down the accelerator even more on its business plan.
Sandpoint ready to make some noise at state
SANDPOINT — Never underestimate the power of seniors at a state tournament, as Sandpoint takes to the court this morning against Bishop Kelly in the opening match of the 4A state volleyball tournament at Kimberly High School.
Support traditionally American candidates
It has been my privilege in the last six months to become quite well acquainted with several wonderful, traditionally American candidates, including Heather Scott, Michael Rosedale, Sage Dixon and Christian Fioravanti.

Robson enjoying 20th year as SHS football manager
SANDPOINT — Back in 1995, a tall 17-year-old kid and his family moved from Texas to Sandpoint.
A vote for Keough is a vote for all of us
Of all the candidates running for the Idaho Legislature, by far the most outstanding is Sen. Shawn Keough.
Support Keough, Bry and Sorg
As a lifelong Bonner County resident of nearly 50 years, I would like to offer the following endorsements and observations regarding the local legislative races.
Please support Westside Fire levy
The requested levy increase by Westside Fire is a necessary and sound proposal to provide adequate staff for effective first response to fire and emergencies.

Vote for the person and not the party
It is blanket diatribes such as Terry Lamb’s that pollutes the politics of this country. One could just as easily rant on that “conservatives” are all bloated, greedy, cigar-chomping misogynists eager to avoid paying taxes on the profits made off the backs of others, unwilling to educate the populace so they can climb out of nowhere, minimum-wage jobs. Dictate the behavior of others? How about denying women the personal choice of pregnancy? How is that for diatribe?
Vote for Dutson-Sater as county clerk post
I am a third-generation North Idaho native and have known Ann Dutson-Sater for over 40 years. I am not affiliated with either the Democratic or Republican parties and vote for the person I believe is best suited for the job. Ann is the best suited for the job of Bonner County clerk. She was unanimously approved by commissioners to replace Marie Scott, who retired early after over 20 years of service.

SANDPOINT — Officials from the Selkirk Association of Realtors told Bonner County commissioners on Wednesday that they are working to iron out a software glitch that was preventing the assessor’s office from receiving data from its Multiple Listing Service.

Get your money's worth with Rosedale
Bonner County breathed a sigh of relief after county Clerk Marie Scott’s contentious tenure ended last year, only to experience more turmoil soon thereafter with the appointed successor, Ann Dutson-Sater.
Dutson-Sater is best pick for clerk's post
Vote for Ann Dutson-Sater for Bonner County clerk. I first met Ann when we both attended grade school at Lincoln School. She has the highest integrity and works diligently for the community.
County deserves clerk who knows the law
Illegally stockpiled funds, elections missed and, the current and previous clerks embroiled in legal cases directly relating to their positions as clerk indicate clearly that something is very wrong in Bonner County government.
Greater Sandpoint Chamber welcomes Bistro Rouge aboard
SANDPOINT — Last week, the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of the Bistro Rouge, where guests at the ribbon-cutting were given an exclusive tour of the historic Belwood building and had an opportunity to experience the essence of this “new” establishment.
Timing matters in legislative races
The day after I submitted my recent letter, the letter of Sandpoint Mayor Carrie Logan was printed. It is pleasing to learn of business expansions, although Lead-Lok’s CEO does not mention the IRIA for its “accelerated growth plan.” He attributed that to his company’s buyout by Graphic Controls.
Sandpoint cross country teams primed for state
SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint girls cross country team, with its sights set firmly on defending the 4A state title on Saturday, received some good news on Wednesday, as freshman Katherine Kaul was cleared by a doctor to return to the lineup.
Sentence Dutson-Sater to four years as clerk
No matter how the dust settles in the county clerk fiasco, I think the voters should at the very least sentence Rosemary Ann Gooby Dutson-Sater to four years of courthouse arrest; the ankle monitoring device with GPS included. Then, for once, I will know she is where she is supposed to be for the first time in a father-daughter relationship.
Voters have a great choice in Rosedale
Voters have a great choice on Nov. 4 when selecting the next Bonner County clerk.
Chilcott would be great for N. Idaho
As a longtime Bonner County resident and mental health advocate, I would like to endorse Jessica Chilcott for Idaho House of Representatives in legislative District 7, representing southeastern Clark Fork and Sagle, Westmond, Cocolalla and Careywood east of Highway 95.
Laura Bry walks the walk in helping others
As grant writer the city of Sandpoint for 12 years, I worked with many local citizens who had a passion for service.
Scott will serve us, not big government
Our legislators, who are supposed to represent us, act like they represent big government.
Bry lacks character needed for office
On Oct. 7, videotaped at a candidate forum in Bonners Ferry, voters were exposed to the spectacle, Laura Bry.
Resort city tax on the ballot
SANDPOINT — Don’t be surprised when you find the latest iteration of the resort city tax waiting for your approval at the polls this weekend.
Dutson-Sater is an asset as county clerk
I have know Ann Dutson-Sater for four or five years and worked with her for three of those years. As a department head or general manager, she always took care of business, and followed guidelines and procedure.
Fioravanti's past raises questions
If you want to know what Christian Fioravanti is about go to the website Rip Off Report (http://www.ripoffreport.com) and type in his name in the search box. The site has a report that was posted in 2009 about a Fioravanti scam that he had posted on YouTube, and judging by his website (http://christianfioravanti.com) Fioravanti is still scamming.

SANDPOINT — With less than a week to go until Election Day, party officials at both the state and local levels say that 2014 has had more than its share of surprises for Republicans and Democrats alike.
Licorice or chocolate, which is heart healthy?
“Do you patiently wait for Halloween to satisfy your black licorice cravings?” a report on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website asked. “Beware black licorice enthusiasts — too much of it can cause serious harm! If you are over the age of 40 and consume multiple two ounce bags (roughly 40-50 grams each) of black licorice a day for at least two weeks you could be at risk for heart arrhythmias.”
Clerk pleads not guilty
SANDPOINT — Bonner County Clerk Ann Dutson-Sater pleaded not guilty Monday to suborning perjury in last year’s failed Lake Pend Oreille School District recall election.

We need Keough's experience in Boise
I am writing to support and endorse Idaho state Sen. Shawn Keough to continue representing the people of North Idaho.
Scott's principles are welcome relief
Heather Scott is running for office of Idaho House of Representatives District 1A — but what is much more important are the principles she is running for: reduced government at both state and federal levels! This should be imperative among today’s electorate.
Voters, be sure to do your homework
There is an expression, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. The voting public today should be ashamed since voting records of candidates are public knowledge (available on the state website). Yet we have been “fooled” time and again; clearly, we don’t do our homework.
Political zealots ignoring Fourteenth Amendment
We are hearing a lot of rhetoric lately from tea party and libertarian/Constitution candidates about protecting our liberties as outlined in the U.S. Constitution.
Letter's author seems suspicious
I found the Oct., 21 letter to the editor, “Community needs a clean county clerk” by A. Morgiana to be very suspicious. Googled the name and the only thing that could be found about the name Morgiana is it is the name of a 1972 Czechoslovakian film, there is no one in the U.S. with the surname Morgiana. My suspicion is it was written by Mike Nielsen or one of his cronies.
Hand Otter his walking papers
Butch Otter’s arrogance is amazing. During the debate in Idaho Falls, Otter claimed that the problems with the state’s prisons, aka “Gladiator School,” stem from the contract he inherited from his predecessors. He failed to mention that he had eight years to fix the problems; instead, he chose to accept their generous donations.
Otter using marriage issue to boost campaign
Gov. Butch Otter is once again cynically using an argument he knows is specious to buttress his continuing and futile argument against same-sex marriage.
Vote for candidates who are regular folk
I attended the candidates forum at Sandpoint on Oct. 15 and the following candidates brought down the house
Man sentenced in case
SANDPOINT — A Spirit Lake man who had sexual contact with three teens in three counties was sentenced Friday to up to 20 years in prison.

SANDPOINT — A good year for Kochava just keeps getting better with the announcement this month that the company has dramatically expanded its executive leadership team.
Remember trio on Election Day
Heather Scott, Sage Dixon and Mike Rosedale. Remember those names on Election Day.
Conservatives using fear for political gain
Reading recent letters shows there is much confusion on what us liberals believe. One letter lists greed, envy and the desire to dictate others’ behavior as liberal qualities when we all know those are conservative values, along with fear and hate.
Rosedale dedicated to helping citizens
Mike Rosedale has a law degree and has practiced law in the past. He is not currently practicing law, but is a professional mediator. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in business and finance.
Rosedale is a vote for integrity, ability
As someone who thoroughly checks out political candidates, reads their websites, attends forums, and also seeks to get a one-on-one impression of candidates, I am impressed with Michael Rosedale who is running for county clerk.
Films, fun fill annual festival
SANDPOINT — Another international lineup awaits local film lovers at the fifth annual Sandpoint Film Festival.

Ariss leads Bulldogs to title defense
Scores winning goal and helps anchor defensive masterpiece
COEUR d’ALENE — As the anchor and leader of a defense that hasn’t been scored on in six consecutive state playoff games, Corinne Ariss has established herself as one of the top defenders in the state, bar none.
Bry, Sorg deserve your vote, support
I encourage District 1 voters to join me in voting for Laura Bry and Andrew Sorg for legislative representative positions A and B. I have worked on projects with both candidates and have found them to be hard-working, intelligent and dedicated to helping our local communities.
Sunday, October 26
If a candidate lies, you can't trust them later
When candidates lie during their campaign, they cannot be trusted to be honest after the election. The current attack ads by Laura Bry and Andrew Sorg against Heather Scott, in which they claim to be champions of the rights of hunters and fishermen when their stated agendas are environmental and socialistic.

Spiritsong bridges cultures with music
Choral group ramps up for Greek choral tour
BONNERS FERRY — Music, for Vicki Blake Thompson, is a bridge. Metaphorically, yes, but also one that has carried her to the far corners of the world. At this point, the only continent she has not crossed over to is Antarctica.
Where is the influence that Keough gives us?
When Benjamin Franklin journeyed to plead the colonists’ cause, do you think he heard something such as “Now, now Ben. We understand your concerns and we feel your pain. Your influence will be ruined if you persist with the calls for more citizen influence.”
Officials: See SPOT deliver
SANDPOINT — City and transportation officials are rolling out a series of presentations to demonstrate the worth of the Selkirks-Pend Oreille Transit bus system.
Dutson-Sater is best pick for county clerk
I have known Ann for over 25 years, she was born and raised here. I know her to be an honest, fair and hard-working.
Clerk's charges are politically motivated
I am a conservative Republican who has always voted Republican. This will change as I am voting for Ann Dutson-Sater for county clerk. I believe the charges against her are politically motivated and I cannot support this type of dishonest, negative politics. I encourage all voters to do the right thing, and rise up against this type of rotten, political character assassination and vote for Ann.
Get your facts straight before speaking out
A recent letter critical of my testimony regarding the county clerk brought to mind Mark Twain’s quote, “Get your facts first … then you can distort ’em as much as you please!”
Dutson-Sater's integrity, ethics without question
This letter is to express our support for Ann Dutson-Sater in her bid for Bonner County clerk. Growing up here in Sandpoint, we have known her since childhood.
Scott is a bright light in region's politics
Unveiled prior to primary election season a new light shown in North Idaho. Truth, dedication, knowledge and the desire to make changes for the benefit of the community, Heather Scott is that light.
Keough's stand on abortion appalling
As I sat listening to Sen. Shawn Keough answer an abortion question at the Daily Bee and Cedar Post’s candidate forum on Oct. 15, I noticed a striking fact. She stated one of her exceptions for allowing abortion as “fetal abnormalities.”

It's clear letter writer doesn't know clerk
I shouldn’t dignify a response to A. Morgiana’s letter, however I must. I don’t know Mr. or Mrs. Morgiana’s experience with clerk’s offices but I know from his/her inflammatory remarks that he/she does not know Ann Dutson-Sater.
We can't afford to vote a straight-party ticket
We have an election coming up. Our ballots give us several options. We can vote a straight party ticket or pick and choose. If Republicans vote only for Rs they will be electing three tea party candidates who only represent the extreme right. Their agendas have very little that will help North Idaho.

Vaccinate against the 'blue plague'
Liberalism takes greatest root in dense populations, the blue areas on the electoral map. This occurs because of human nature, which causes less self-sufficiency, more dependency, more class envy, and diminished education of individuals where large numbers live in uncomfortable proximity.

Support pro-freedom candidates at the polls
I’m writing to thank all of you Jeffersonian Democrats for voting for me in the last primary election. It was truly refreshing to see how many Democrats still support sound money policies, in addition to limited, constitutional government, individual freedom and responsibility and state sovereignty.

Please, will the real Laura Bry stand up?
Confronted with a question about her Facebook page at Bonner Ferry’s recent candidate forum, Heather Scott’s opponent declared her privacy was being invaded and refused to answer any further questions. I was shocked by the assumption that her Facebook postings were not subject to potential constituents’ inquiries.

Shawn Keough offers us proven leadership
Sen. Shawn Keough has done a good job for North Idaho. She represents a diverse constituency with honor, character, and integrity. She has worked her way up in the Senate and has earned the respect of fellow legislators and the governor, all the while remembering where her home is.
It's time for a change in Boise
The Idaho Republican-controlled legislature has for many decades failed miserably to adequately fund the schools in Idaho. It’s past time for a change.
Candidate's ad is patently incorrect
This morning, I heard a radio spot on KSPT by Christian Fioravanti, who is running for the Idaho Senate seat for District 1. The premise of his ad was that the incumbent legislators voted for Obamacare and for federally-mandated Common Core education guidelines. His statements are patently incorrect and need to be addressed.
No wonder people won't run for office
It is sad that the county clerk is being dragged through the court system over issues that she had no involvement with until she was called on to do her duties as clerk, and that she did to the best of her knowledge.
Actions speak louder than words
Every political season, worn out clichés like, “honest,” “hardworking” and “integrity” are heard from political candidates.
Crossingham kicks Bulldogs past Hawks in playoff opener
SANDPOINT — Much like a great point guard can break a team down off the dribble and get to the rim in basketball, speedy Sandpoint sophomore Amos Crossingham was able to drive the soccer ball to the goal off the dribble, providing the x-factor in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 win over Lakeland in a 4A Region 1 loser-out game on Monday at War Memorial Field.

In her position as vice-chair of the Joint Appropriations and Finance Committee, Shawn Keough kept Idaho’s budget balanced through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
No public lands or schools? No thanks
Conservatives in name only because there is nothing conservative about them. Use up our natural resources, pollute our water and air in the name of prosperity. Allow big business to do anything to make money with no oversight and no responsibility.
Anarchy advocated to keep exchange
On April 26 of this year, a candidate forum at Bonners Ferry Middle School became an eye opener for many as to where Laura Bry stands on the state health care exchange.
Know where candidates stand on veterans issues
With less than four weeks before the mid-term elections it’s critical that veterans know where their members of Congress and other candidates stand on veterans issues. Veterans must attend every town hall meetings. Ask the candidates what their plan is to end the Defense Department’s sequestration. Ask if they are willing to fully fund VA health care and their stand on Medicaid expansion.
Fioravanti believes in limited government
Dear voters: Please vote for Christian Fioravanti for Idaho State Senate. I have supported and voted for his opponent for the last 18 years and, unfortunately, she has not been voting the way most of the people of North Idaho think.

Environment, economy can co-exist
Let’s acknowledge something right up front. Many of the Idahoans pleading for fewer governmental regulations have a vested interest in what that would mean to them: More money.
Take time to research all election candidates
Please, please, please, take the time to vote this November, and vote intelligently. Our city, county and state require your participation and informed vote. I humbly ask you attend the coming forums in your area and listen to the candidates, from both parties, that have given of themselves to serve you. Listen, ask questions, and make an informed decision. But remember this, a politician will offer pie in the sky, but a statesman speaks of reality, with sound reasoning. Decide for yourself who to vote for, and don’t listen to the misconstrued interpretations of others.

Writer's comments were very misguided
Bob Wynhausen’s Aug. 12 letter in the Daily Bee was very misguided and indicates that his ideology does not correlate to reality. He endorsed two individuals (Democrats) that he said should be supported because they will work with the current establishment. Yes, he wants us to support those bureaucrats who voted yes for Common Core, the Obama health care exchange as well as supporting big government spending and unwarranted regulatory burdens on businesses and private properties.

Question may have an obvious answer
If Bob Wynhausen feels abused, assaulted, or aghast when a person, business, political gathering, or even a flounder is waving the Stars and Stripes; and if he feels that such an act is to question his own degree of patriotism, then perhaps it’s a question that has an obvious answer.

He governs by polls. Those of you who find Obama’s weaknesses deserving of criticism need to look again or miss the hidden strength of our dithering emperor-in-chief.
Idaho residents need affordable coverage
Idaho’s working families want to take responsibility for their health, but they need affordable options. The new health care law provides tax subsidies for middle income residents, but 70,000 lower income working Idahoans have been left out because the Idaho legislature has refused to accept increased Medicaid coverage for our neighbors in need. As we consider candidates running for office this November, we should clearly understand their position for Medicaid redesign.

I am delighted for the opportunity to vote for a real Constitution-supporting, small government, family man. I know, and am super impressed with, Sage Dixon and his family.
