Railroads aren't fly-by-night outfits
There has been much concern regarding the trains carrying the coal and oil tanker cars coming through Sandpoint for quite sometime now. I can understand some concern; however, not to the degree expressed in articles in the Bee and letters to the editor; especially for just the coal and crude oil cars. Many of you would be surprised to learn of all the much more dangerous materials that travel through our cities and towns every day, yet those are never mentioned in your concerns. (And not by just rail).

Regarding Ammi Midstokke’s Jan. 7 column — she referred to her daughter’s moving “at approximately .00000038 knots per hour.” The speed reference is incorrect. By definition, a knot is one nautical mile per hour. Therefore, “per hour” should not be added after “knots,” as it is redundant.

Why can't the city keep roads safe?
Just a quick little question. With a city budget adopted earlier this year that spends just a little shy of $40,000 per for every man woman and child figuring a population of 7,500; why can’t the city at least sand the nice icy intersections in town? Perhaps buying shiny new police cruisers ate up this budget?
