Improperly discarded big game bones both hide, create hazards
Big game seasons are open and from all appearances hunters are out in high numbers. Last weekend I worked the upper Coeur d’Alene drainage and despite the constant rain there were lots of hunters and hunting camps. Hunters are hoping to put some healthy and nutritious meat into the freezer. Those who are successful at harvesting a big game animal are required by law to remove and care for all of the edible meat. This includes the meat from hind quarters as far down as the hock, meat of the front quarters as far down as the knee, and meat along the backbone. There is also good meat in the neck region, covering the ribs and between the ribs.

Jesus is the one, the only, 'Solo Savior'

In essence, it can be summarized as “Believing, Behaving, and Becoming Like Jesus.” As I am writing this article, I am also preparing to present the third core belief, “Salvation,” on Sunday. According to the Bible, salvation (or the forgiveness and cleansing of our sinfulness) is only possible through acceptance of the saving work that Jesus did for us through His death on the cross, and His resurrection from the tomb.

The “silly season” has declined into the sadly sorry stench-filled season. Locally we are hearing that campaign signs of an incumbent elected official are disappearing and that door-to-door campaigners for the challenger are spreading falsehoods and exaggerations daily. Soon we’ll likely hear that some people have contrived phony instances about being scowled at or having their “space” threatened. Neither will be as bad as learning that an incumbent Republican is providing advice to the challenger of a fellow Republican. Small wonder though that the national political scene smells even more repugnant.

This summer, on our way to spend a few days in the Steens Mountains in Oregon, my family and I traveled through Burns, Ore., and spent an afternoon with two residents of this small rural town. These good family friends are in their 70s and have lived in Burns for very many decades. They are the bedrock of a small community, serving as board members on many community organizations, including transportation of the elderly, cemetery stewardship, library board, community gardens, and many church organizations. They told us that their community was literally torn apart as a result of the armed occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, which happened during January and February of this year. They told us that they thought that they did not think their community could heal, and that they were afraid of who they could even talk to at the grocery store. They told us that their community was split in two. They told us, “Things are bad.” They felt their community had been destroyed by the armed occupation. They didn’t know who they could trust any more.

The biggest problem with our economy is the high inflation rate and individual income not keeping pace. The Federal Reserve Bank for decades has kept the prime interest rate low to make more money available. When more money is available, prices increase. When prices increase more on an individual’s income goes to living costs. Meaning he has less money to buy goods, causing an economic depression. The Federal Reserve needs to start raising the prime rate (very slowly) until inflation is brought under control or reversed.

Injectors, car show booths deserved credit
I saw the picture on the front page of the newspaper (Sept. 13) of kids building items at The Home Depot booth. It would have been nice if the paper could have given a little more coverage to the photo. The Home Depot had more than 200 kids build items under their supervision. The whole concept of the booths was to introduce industrial arts to our youth and those looking for a career change. The Busy Beaver and Spartan Arc & Panel closed their shops for the day to introduce to the public information about their trade. To our knowledge (the Injectors), no other car show has ever done anything like this. It was promoted as “Education Alley.”
