As a recent retiree who moved to North Idaho from the Midwest, I have been interested in the discussion about the Wilderness designation of the Scotchman Peaks area. I have vacationed here consistently for over 20 years, and my wife’s family has roots in the area. Her mother’s family grew up on Bull River and attended school in Noxon. Her father’s family lived just outside of Clark Fork – her grandfather worked on the Cabinet Dam and her grandmother taught at Clark Fork High School. My father-in-law spent summers working for the USFS as trail and fire crew. Their stories about the Cabinets intrigued me from my first visit. My hikes in the area always have wonderful flora and fauna surprises.

All Democrats voted for this bill, and Scott and virtually all Republicans voted against it.

This week is my first time to be involved with a youth camp at Cocolalla Bible camp. I am working as a “pastor dean” to help deal with discipline or relationship problems among the campers. I quickly discovered that my fears were totally unfounded! There were over a hundred little kids having a great time getting totally soaked with an array of water games on a very hot day! Many, like myself, have lived here for years unaware of a very good thing happening in our backyard.

Fences, plants, rocks create natural boundaries
Borders between adjoining properties depend on what’s on the other side. In-town residents — depending on size of the lot, sun/shade situation and perhaps even relationship between the neighbors — can determine the best solution. Lenker's journey one of a 'Thousand Springs'
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For many artists, stepping into a studio to record an album can be challenging enough. But when East Nashvillian Korby Lenkerbegan working on his seventh album, “Thousand Springs”, he decided to skip the studio altogether and head to his home state of Idaho to record in places that held particular meaning for him. Venturing forth with his guitar, some recording gear and a tent, he captured his vocal and guitar parts in more than a dozen locales, including the edge of the Snake River Canyon, a cabin north of Sun Valley and his undertaker father’s mortuary.

I very much appreciate Rep. I couldn’t agree more, that focusing on others’ best intentions allows us to work together to achieve common goals to improve our country.

LEGAL NOTICE The Idaho Department of Fish and Game was informed by the Bureau of Fisheries that the proportions of natural and hatchery origin fish migrating to terminal spawning areas and hatchery facilities in the Salmon River Basin upstream of the Little Salmon River are increasing in the mainstem fisheries in the lower and upper Salmon River in recent weeks. Adult returns of the natural origin populations are estimated too low to sustain any incidental hook and release mortalities associated with the mainstem Salmon River fisheries. Returns of hatchery origin salmon destined for the South Fork Salmon and Pahsimeroi rivers are likely insufficient to meet broodstock requirements for those programs and cannot support any harvest in pass through fisheries in the lower Salmon or the upper Salmon rivers. To minimize fishery impacts on these hatchery and natural origin fish destined for terminal areas upstream of the Little Salmon River, and the section of the terminal area in the upper Salmon River upstream of the mouth of Valley Creek, the Fisheries Bureau recommends closing the Lower Salmon River from the Highway 95 Time Zone Bridge upstream to a posted boundary at the mouth of Short's Creek and the section of the upper Salmon River from the Highway 93 bridge 0.3 miles south of the junction of Highway 93 and Highway 75 upstream to the posted boundary upstream of the mouth of Valley Creek effective the end of fishing July 2, 2017. Pursuant to his authority under Idaho Code Section 36-106(e)(6)(A), the Idaho Department of Fish and Game Director hereby closes the Lower Salmon River from the Highway 95 Time Zone Bridge upstream to a posted boundary at the mouth of Short's Creek and the section of the upper Salmon River from the Highway 93 bridge 0.3 miles south of the junction of Highway 93 and Highway 75 upstream to the posted boundary upstream of the mouth of Valley Creek effective the end of fishing July 2, 2017. Copies of Order 17-42 are available at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game headquarters, 600 South Walnut, PO Box 25, Boise, ID 83707. DATED this 28th day of June 2017. Progressivism, liberalism, socialism, call it whatever you want, just isn’t my cup of tea. I favor being an individual, not a member of a conformist society. I value my private property and prosperity and resent efforts to redistribute it to persons deemed worthy by a growing authoritarian and powerful government. I believe in real science not the new “social science” being rammed down our throats. I see real truth and do not recognize ideological social engineering. I just want to see our children educated not indoctrinated. I hope for stability in our society and not the constant transformational disease spread by the progressive carriers. In short, I just want to adhere to the Constitution and the law and order it maps out quite clearly.

The Sandpoint Lions Club, which has done wonderful things for Sandpoint, has strangely denied permission for two groups, 350Sandpoint and Sandpoint Indivisible, to march in this year’s Fourth of July parade. The reason is that they represent political protest. The Lions Club is apparently nervous about what they consider wacko groups ruining the parade. These two groups are about as wacko as the Republican and Democratic parties (yes, I know) that are allowed in the parade. Fourth of July is about acknowledging our debt to the wackos who dared stand up to the world power that denied parade rights to our Founding Fathers.

I have learned something new in the past few weeks. For years, my school teachers, my parents, my college professors, including my history of the Constitution professor, drummed into my head that the Fourth of July, or Independence Day, was a day for us all to celebrate our freedom. Freedom from suppression, from control, from bullying. It was to celebrate the founding of our new country, our new Constitution — like its guarantees of our freedom of speech, and our freedom of assembly. Silly me. I believed all those people I had trusted for all those years.
