Vote Kunzeman, Woodward and Boeck
The primary election is approaching on May 15, when our elected officials are most often chosen. Idaho is a predominantly Republican state. The contested races tend to be in the Republican primary. The winner of the primary usually goes on to win the general election in the fall. For that reason, it’s important that everyone vote in the primary election if you care about good government.

Vote McDonald on May 15
Dan McDonald has been an incredible Bonner County Commissioner. He is hard working, engaged with the citizens, honest and diligent. That is why I am perplexed about Carol Kunzeman, his primary opponent. I have personally spoken with Carol twice and her explanation for running is that she is “bored with retirement” and she “thinks every candidate needs an opponant”...this is worrisome...Being a Commissioner is not a hobby, it’s a huge responsibility. I would suggest that Carol go back to quilting if she is that bored. Vote Dan McDonald on May 15.

Wilderness does not affect wildlife management
As a former wildlife biologist, I call BS on a recent “My Turn” column written by Tony McDermott. Either he is incredibly misinformed, or he meant to mislead others with his absurd statements. The entire article is filled with accusations based on half-truths and outright falsehoods. In particular, I find it difficult to understand how a former IDFG Commissioner does not know the IDFG mission statement, which reads: “All wildlife, including all wild animals, wild birds, and fish, within the state of Idaho, is hereby declared to be the property of the state of Idaho.”

Appraisers are a critical component to the assessment process and their contribution to the Assessor’s Office should not be taken lightly. An appraiser must have a good eye for detail, be aware of current market trends and be proficient with the tools needed to do their assigned tasks. An appraiser does not need to have management, leadership, or budgetary skills. Those are qualities the assessor must have to properly run the Assessor’s Office, as well as the ability to lead, manage and motivate the appraisers, the DMV staff and the support staff, all of whom work for the assessor. Proficiency with these qualities takes time and experience to acquire.

It requires someone willing to see an issue through, whatever it may be, with commitment and tenacity. It requires someone with a business background and an understanding of fiscal responsibility. It also requires someone who believes that communication with those constituents is essential, and that obtaining input from a variety of sources before reaching a decision is crucial.

Praying together in community
Life is busy. Church can be busy. Family is busy. Sports, social events, work and other priorities often keep us spinning our wheels. Some of us have learned the power of rest during the busy-ness, but most of us run until we can’t run any more. My hope is that we take the time daily and weekly to re-energize our hearts and minds as we go about our lives. One of the best ways I know to get re-energized is through worshipping the Lord and through prayer. Both of which you must set aside time to step into. It often needs to become a disciplined part of our lives.

Holiday brings to mind family dinners, memories
With the holiday just past, my thoughts turned to Easter — atime is a time of sadness and celebration: Acknowledgement of course, of Christ’s sacrifice and triumph of life over death — and the more mundane but caring celebration of Easter dinner as well as a salute to the Easter Bunny who makes everything all real for the toddlers.

I just wanted to write to express my support for Heather Scott. She stands strongly for liberty and the rights of the people in District 1A. Sadly, too many politicians are looking out for their own interests. Heather is not like that. She has even stood strong in the face of opposition, not only by other parties, but also of her own.

Procedure may help with spinal compression fractures
Spinal compression fractures can occur to anyone at any age. These fractures can be reported to be very painful and even debilitating. Compression fractures of the spine can occur as a result of any number of causes and don’t necessarily develop after a major event such as a motor vehicle accident or fall. A compression fracture can develop without the individual ever even knowing why or when it happened. Because of the pain and debility that can result from these fractures the team at Idaho Pain Clinic in Sandpoint recently began offering a corrective minimally invasive procedure.

It really is difficult to see Sandpoint having a truly honest dialogue about gun ownership when most of the local coverage is devoted to only one side of the conversation — the side that gives the impression that guns should be confiscated. Oh, sure those proponents will say they do not want to take guns away, because after all, it is a constitutional right. But what they say and what they mean is grossly inconsistent. For instance, Rebecca Holland, seemingly a very active community organizer-type, says the students marching want “sensible gun reform” and then later says “ … it is more than just gun reform that is needed.” Whether listening to David Hogg, who has gone off on white privilege, or the many celebs with their bodyguards, the true call for gun control emerges. There does not seem to be a good faith effort by the activists who attack anyone who opposes them.
