SANDPOINT — An Athol man was killed and a Hayden woman was seriously injured after their car overturned and ejected them on U.S. Highway 95 on Wednesday afternoon.

Idaho State Police said Angel M. Thomas and Dalton C. Felts were headed northbound in a 1999 Mazda Millenia when it overturned while attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve near the bottom of Granite Hill. State police did not specify who was driving at the time of the 5:30 p.m. crash.

Felts, 20, died at the scene. Thomas, 24, was evacuated from the scene by a Life Flight Network helicopter and taken to Kootenai Health.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, state police said.

The northbound lanes were blocked for approximately two hours.

A passerby who witnessed the aftermath of the crash reported encountering three inches of hailstones in a confined area at the crash scene.

State police said the crash remains under investigation.
