Smith hired as deputy county prosecutor

SANDPOINT — A former intern at the Bonner County Prosecutor’s Office is being welcomed back as a deputy prosecutor.
“We are pleased to announce the hiring of Josh Smith as our newest deputy prosecutor. Josh will be handling misdemeanor and juvenile cases as his main caseload,” Prosecutor Louis Marshall said. “Josh spent two summers as an intern for my office where he got his feet wet doing a lot of court work. I am pleased to have him on the team.”
Smith attended San Diego State University where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2010. After graduation, Smith went to work in residential treatment for emotionally disturbed and at-risk youth. He worked in various facilities doing this line of work, eventually ending up in Oregon.
Smith enlisted in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and was deployed to Afghanistan. He continued serving in the National Guard after returning from overseas.
Smith decided to attend law school shortly after returning to the United States and enrolled in the University of Idaho’s College of Law in 2016.
“After spending two summers interning in the Bonner County Prosecutor’s Office, I knew that I wanted to work in that office after graduation.
“In the beginning of 2020, I was afforded the opportunity to come back to work for Bonner County,” said Smith.
Dan Rodriguez has been promoted to chief deputy prosecutor and Valerie Fenton has been promoted to senior deputy prosecutor.
