VFW is hosting meeting Tuesday

VFW Post 2453 will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the post home, 1325 W. Pine St. Call 263-9613 for more info.

Post 2453 meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the VFW Hall, 1325 Pine St.

Besides their regular meeting, the VFW hosts a soup kitchen on the Third and Fourth Sundays from noon to 2 p.m. The hall is available to rent for special occasions and has a fully equipped kitchen.

VFW members are very active in the community. Grants, donations and fundraisers help cover the costs of veterans or their spouses in need.

Each year, local high school students have the opportunity to apply for $500 scholarships to the college of their choice.

The organization is about camaraderie and supporting one another emotionally and physically. A hearing specialist comes to town to give free hearing tests and the VFW’s storeroom is filled with walkers, wheelchairs, canes and the like for vets and their families.
