Farmhouse Kitchen pivots in pandemic

PONDERAY — The Farmhouse Kitchen has pivoted its operations in the pandemic era and is open for business.

The former owners of the sit-down restaurant and the Silo bar sold the business to Hotel Ruby in May.

"When we took over the Farmhouse we decided to focus on just scratch-fresh barbecue," said Patrick Shepler, chef and manager of Farmhouse.

The dining space was converted to an event space and upgraded with projectors, drop-down screens and a top-notch audio setup.

"We turned the half of the building that used to be the main dining room into an events space for training functions, business parties or seminars," Shepler said.

The other half of the establishment, meanwhile, was converted into a walk-up barbecue stand with beer, wine and spirits. It's connection with Hotel Ruby is also offering opportunities for hotel guests.

"Now there’s some dine-and-stay packages available for guests traveling to the area for business or pleasure. It’s turned into a more-inclusive amenity," said Shepler.

Farmhouse's hours of operation are from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Regulations to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus initially led to the temporary closure of the Farmhouse and its amended operations.

"Like anything it takes a little while to make adjustments and for them to be received. People had one idea of what Farmhouse was prior to the pandemic," Shepler said.

Brenda Paddack, events coordinator at Farmhouse, said value nights are planned, in addition to hosting events.

"When we’re not limited the COVID regulations, we’re doing events on the restaurant side," said Paddack.

Paddock said the Farmhouse is taking on a more casual tone, although some still mistakenly believe the restaurant is closed.

"So many people don't realize we're open," she said.
