CHENEY, Wash. — For the second time this season, three Sandpoint High girls basketball alumnae will share the same court to compete in a women’s collegiate basketball game.

Madi Schoening’s Montana Grizzlies take on Grace Kirscher and Trinity Golder’s Eastern Washington Eagles at 11 a.m. today in Cheney.

The trio were all stars for Sandpoint when they donned a Bulldogs uniform, carrying the team to a number of state berths and league titles.

Schoening is the oldest of the three and is a redshirt junior at Montana. Schoening graduated from SHS in 2016 and amassed 1,418 career points, the second most in school history. During her time as a Bulldog, she led the team to third-place finishes at state twice and was named the Inland Empire MVP as a junior and senior. She also earned MVP at the Idaho High School All-Star Game as a senior scoring 26 points in the contest.

Kirscher, a sophomore at EWU, has a long list of accomplishments at SHS as well, including being named the league MVP in 2017 and 2018 and the District I and Idaho High School All-Star games MVP’s.

Golder graduated from SHS in 2018 along with Kirscher and was named to the All-State 4A basketball team in 2017 and took part in the District I Idaho All-Star game her senior year. She also earned all-league honors during her junior year.

The EWU redshirt freshman made her collegiate debut this season at Gonzaga on Nov. 22.

In Missoula on Jan. 9, Kirscher, Schoening and Golder all stepped on the court at Dahlberg Arena as the Grizzlies beat the Eagles 92-54.

Schoening had 10 points, three rebounds and three steals for Montana in 16 minutes of action. Kirscher scored 15 points including a trio of 3-pointers in 35 minutes of play for the Eagles while Golder scored her first college points in the game on a 3-pointer.

Montana and EWU are both in the Big Sky Conference so the trio will see each other at least two more times next season during Schoening’s final season as an Eagle.

Currently, the Grizzlies have an 11-9 record while the Eagles are 2-17.
