Area schools cancel sporting events with 'Snowmageddon' upon us

Alright calling this winter storm “Snowmageddon” might be pushing it a little too far, but where I come from (Western Washington) a trace of snow on the ground means school is canceled, everyone all the sudden needs studded tires and you can’t leave your home because if you do, you’ll end up in a ditch.

I’ve come to realize how ridiculous these beliefs are over the past few months of living in North Idaho but I’m still not used to seeing so much snowfall. Anyways, back to the news.

SHS announced Friday morning that due to the weather conditions and safety concerns with traveling, all road sporting events this Friday and Saturday have been canceled.

These events include Sandpoint wrestling traveling to Post Falls for the River City Duals, cheer going to the University of Idaho on Saturday and the boys and girls basketball heading to West Valley in Spokane on Saturday.

In an email, SHS Athletic Director Kris Knowles said they would like to reschedule these events for a later date but nothing concrete has been decided yet.

Clark Fork also canceled Friday’s home girls and boys basketball games against the Post Falls C team.

So no sports for me for two days. What I am supposed to do with my time now? Guess, I could try and get some sleep. Or I could sit on the couch and watch football all weekend while planning how to attack the spring sports season. I’d prefer the latter.
