SANDPOINT — It wasn’t going to be easy to knock off one of the best 4A teams in the state, but Sandpoint boys basketball gave it all they had. Unfortunately, the Hawks found their rhythm in the second half and soared to a 57-40 win.

“I thought turnovers really hurt us,” head coach Wade Engelson said. “We probably had over 30 turnovers again and we didn’t shoot it well.”

Lakeland’s Carson Seay came out firing in the first quarter knocking down a trio of 3-pointers to help the Hawks build a 16-7 lead.

And it didn’t help that the Bulldogs had five turnovers in the opening quarter.

The second quarter didn’t see a lot of scoring. Both teams combined to score just one point halfway through the first quarter and 15 in the entire quarter. Neither team could buy a shot and every time it looked the ball was going through the basket, it rimmed out.

Senior Ryan Roos drilled a 3-pointer at the first half buzzer to make the score 24-14 at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, the Bulldogs looked like they upped their intensity. But so did Lakeland.

The Hawks started to gain control of the game and before Sandpoint knew it they were down 20 points.

The game was out of reach and the Bulldogs dropped their second league game.

Seay finished with 25 points in the game. Ryan Roos led Sandpoint with 16 points and his brother Colin added 8.
