IBE seeking to ‘Close the Divide’

| July 29, 2020 1:00 AM

Idaho Business for Education, a nonprofit comprised of about 250 Idaho businesses, is launching a new phase of its Close the Divide campaign to get computers and internet service to students who lack these learning tools at home.

A survey by the State Board of Education of local school districts shows that nearly 200,000 students do not have a computer at home and at least 30,000 do not have internet access.

IBE is calling on businesses and residents to see if they have spare computers for students who do not have devices at home.

If a business or individual has a spare computer or money to donate, they can visit www.idahobe.org/close.

On Aug. 5, IBE will host Close the Divide Day to collect spare laptops. Drop-off locations will open throughout the state from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
