May 26, 1970 — VERDAL INITIATED AT UI
Larry Paul Verdal, a senior in the U of I College of Letters and Science, was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, honor society. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thor Verdal, attended a celebratory banquet.

HADLEY, COGSWELL TOP STUDENTS
The top seniors of the 1970 SHS graduating class of 186 are valedictorian Ted Hadley and salutatorian Christi Cogswell. Hadley, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hadley, 303 S. Boyer, plans to attend the University of Idaho to pursue a musical career. Miss Cogswell, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Dar Cogswell, Rocky Point, also plans to continue her musical ambitions at the U of I.

MRS. STUBBERUD IS HOME
Mrs. O.A. Stubberud, Ponderay, returned from California where since September she had visited Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fisher (Helen Stubberud) and family in Citrus Heights and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Stubberud and family in Los Angeles.

TROOP 199 HAS FIRST COURT OF HONOR
Boy Scout Troop 199 of Sagle held its first court of honor with scoutmaster Gene Pucci leading the ceremony. Tenderfoot badges were awarded to Phil Balch, Cecil Carpenter, Robert Pierce, Scott Raser, Bruce Sleep and Kevin Jones. Jim Slaughter was the first to qualify for a Webelo badge. He will join the ranks as a tenderfoot as soon as he is 11. Parents participated as each Scout received his badge. Other troop members are Brian Balch, Vance Colhoff, Marvin Chapman, Dan Raser and Ron Durfee.

May 26, 1920 — GRADES NEED REVISING
On Monday Engineer Smithwick reported to the city dads that before sidewalk construction on S. 2nd avenue can be begun, a revision of the grades of that district is necessary as the present grades, set some time ago by a Spokane engineer, call for excavations that would put the street level so low as to form an area menaced by high water during flood stages of the lake. The street and alley committee was given the power to act in ordering a change of grades.

BONNER MEAT HITS HIGH COST
The Bonner Meat company is delivering a punishing wallop to old Dr. Hicosta Living by putting on a seven day pork sale at prices that will make the “Big Five” packers wonder how soon they will shake hands with the sexton at the cemetery for profiteers. Windows of the Bonner shop are loaded with choice cuts of this pork and offer an attractive display of splendid meat.

ELLIOTT PLACES TIMBER ORDER
E.E. Elliott this week signed a contract with T.J. Stonestreet of Coeur d’Alene for the delivery of 2,000,000 feet of timber at the Elliott mill on the water front at the City dock. The delivery of the timber will be made by rail, over the N.P.
