Harvey Eugene Luckey, 86

On May 22, 2020, at the age of 86, Harvey Eugene Luckey went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ and joined his most beloved gift from God, his wife Eva.

Services for Harvey will be held at the Coffelt’s Funeral Home on Saturday May 30 at 11 a.m. a with graveside service at Pinecrest Cemetery. The service will be followed by a fellowship luncheon at the Assembly of God Church in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Harvey was born to Merton and Blanche Luckey on January 18, 1934, in a small house on Pine Street in Sandpoint, the youngest of 10 children, who have all preceded him in death. He spent his childhood in that same house, started work at a young age doing odd jobs and graduated from Sandpoint High in 1952.

He met his soulmate Eva Mae Buck on a blind date and three months later on October 24, 1953, they married. They loved and lived life to the fullest for 64 years and from that love had four daughters. Eva preceded Harvey in death on February 11, 2018.

Harvey started working as an automotive service station attendant and a mechanic at the age of 17 making this his career. He worked alongside of Bill Haviland and John Holzmer for several years and at the age of 38 he owned his own service center the “Exxon” on Main and Cedar in Sandpoint, Idaho. He sold the service station 10 years later and worked 8 years for the Bonner County School District as a school bus mechanic. Harvey and Eva moved to Seattle and he worked for Laidlaw Company as a mechanic for eigh years and he somewhat retired at the age of 64. They moved home to the Bonner County area and settled on Kelso Lake Road outside of Athol, Idaho. Harvey worked part-time at VanWengerdons Greenhouse for five years and then worked as a custodian at Stone Ridge in Blanchard, Idaho, for nine years, officially retiring at the age of 78 so he could complete his bucket list which included taking his family to hike the Grand Canyon in October of 2012 and taking his four daughters to visit and tour his heritage homeland of Ireland in October 2018, which he did along with one of his sons-in-law.

Harvey spent his life working hard, and he loved to serve others. All who knew him appreciated his loyalty, kindness, generosity and integrity. Everyone trusted and relied on Harvey and valued his character. He never prejudged anybody and often repeated Wil Rogers’ “I have not met a man I didn’t like,” In his free time Harvey loved spending his time with his family, hiking the small lakes to fish, taking long walks, getting in firewood, gardening and cooking, making his own recipes of wine and soup. He learned to live his life “One day at a time” grateful, thanking God for each and every day. Harvey remained active until the day of his death.

This wonderful man will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his family which are the legacy he has left behind: four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Dale Roberts, Kim and Cornel Rasor, Susan and Steven Taylor, and Karen and Frank Berscheid; his 12 grandchildren with spouses, Sally Roberts (Morgan Montgomery), Emily Roberts (Aaron Peterson), Amber Roberts (Levi Bush), Nicholas Rasor (Sara Joy), Danielle Rasor (Gabe Yandt), Alexandria Rasor (Isaiah Yandt), Justin Taylor (Kristina), Eugene Berscheid (Tracy), Colby Berscheid (Hannah), Elijah Berscheid (Tessa), Tyler Berscheid (Bailey), and Kaimi-Ann Berscheid (Brian Varney); and 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
