Vote with your dollars and buy local produce

| May 28, 2020 1:00 AM

In response to Craig Royer’s letter on May 15 regarding labeling the country of origin on food products, why not skip all the dirty politics and dubious origins by simply voting with your dollars right here at home? North Idaho is home to an abundance of local farms and food producers, from produce to meat, eggs, cheese, and so much more. Not only does buying from local farms take the guesswork out of where it comes from, but you can get to know your farmer in person and support the local economy at the same time. Current world events and disrupted supply chains are a jarring reminder of the importance of supporting local food production.

Many local farms offer their produce every week at the farmers markets in Athol, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, and beyond. Most also offer pre-paid CSA packages, ensuring that your family gets fresh, local produce all season long and helping the farmer stay in business. Due to the pandemic and economic hardships, our farm now offers flexible salad subscriptions to the community, delivering orders of fresh produce to drop-off locations around the area once a week. For some customers, we even deliver right to your front door!

By supporting local farms, you support food security for North Idaho and help keep our community resilient and healthy. No farms, no food!
