LPOIC Derby gets underway
SANDPOINT — Dave Covey and Kenny Bartlett topped the leaderboard Saturday in the rainbow and Mackinaw divisions respectively as the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club's Thanksgiving Derby got underway.
"Great day on the water today," wrote the club's Dave Gillespie, who was among those landing a spot on the leaderboard. "Some very nice rainbows in two of the divisions. All released to make another angler's day memorable."
Dan Covey pulled in a 23.83-pound, 37-inch rainbow to claim top spot in the adult rainbow division. Dave Gillespie nabbed a 22.48-pound, 36-inch rainbow for second, and Cory LaRue caught a 22.13-pound, 35-inch rainbow for third-place. All of the fish were released live.
Kenny Bartlett nabbed a 6.4-pound, 25-inch fish to top the standings in the adult Mackinaw division. Claiming second was Bert Dennett, who caught a 3.3-pound, 21-inch Mackinaw.
There were no fish caught in the Youth A division while Abby Hamilton caught an 8.2-pound, 27-inch rainbow to top the Youth B bracket. Liberty O'Hara caught a 7.03-pound, 25.5-inch rainbow to claim second in the division. Both youth also released the fish live.
