Effie Strecker, Mary Sindelar and Agnes Deshon, were initiated Friday into the Woman’s Relief Corps at the IWA hall (Fourth and Alder).

LOUISE ALICE McNALL ENGAGEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. Francis McNall of Samuels announce the engagement of their daughter, Louise Alice, to Steven A. Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wood, also of Samuels. Miss McNall, a 1970 SHS graduate, is attending the U of I. Wood, who graduated from SHS in 1969, is attending North Idaho Junior College majoring in vet science. A June wedding is planned.

COMPLETES COURSE
Army Capt. Michael J. Brown, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold I. Tibbs, Sandpoint, has completed a 38-week field artillery officer advanced course at the U.S. Army Field artillery Center, Fort Sill, Okla. Captain Brown entered the Army in June 1966 and was last stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo. He holds nine Bronze Star Medal awards, one for heroism, the Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He earned a B.S. degree in 1966 at U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. His wife, Mary, also lives in Sandpoint.

Nov. 24, 1920 – LABELS MUST NOT BE ‘WET’
Local prohibition officers are advised from Boise of instructions regarding cereal beverage labels that “use of the words beer, ale, porter, lager, bock or stout, with or without prefixes or suffixes, is not permissible on labels.” This regulation is effective Jan. 1, 1921.

HOPE SAWMILL CLOSES
The East Hope sawmill, conducted for years by the Anaconda Copper co., blew a long blast yesterday and shut down, after completing the sawing of its available timber in the area. The mill’s machinery was taken out and the windows boarded up. The company will now secure its supply of mine timbers from its mill at Bonner, Mont. There is talk that the company will saw its western Montana timber at Thompson Falls.

CITY BREVITIES
Dr. Page performed appendicitis operations last week at the City hospital on Tom Turnbull of Sagle and on Eric Peterson who was brought down from Humbird camp 4. Both patients are doing excellently and are well on the way to complete convalescence.
A son (Ed. Note: C. Adair “Higs” Hilligoss, the Music Director for the Bonner County School District from 1949-1962) was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hilligoss of Kootenai Friday morning.
