Nov. 26, 1920 – “INSANITY” CAUSE FOUND

Bert Kamper was taken at Mamaloose island a few days ago by Deputy Sheriffs Pickett and Christenson on a moonshining charge. Kamper imagined he should be the only camper and ran old man Coffee off the island, threatening him with a hatchet. Word came that Kamper was insane, but the deputies found the cause of his insanity in three gallons of moonshine and three 50-gallon barrels of mash with the usual plant. He was brought before Judge Martin.

RAIN INJURES ROADS AND BRIDGE

The heavy rains of last week not only put a check on road building in the county but did much damage to those already built. The bridge between Sandpoint and Dover, over Chuck slough, never much as a bridge, has now settled and twisted until it is impassable and will possibly have to be rebuilt. Another bridge in the Glengary district is reported damaged. More than three inches of rain fell in four days last week, up to Friday noon. As the rain came before the ground was frozen and much has been absorbed, there will be much moisture for next season’s crop.
