SANDPOINT — Kayelin Johansen, a senior at SHS, announced on Wednesday she has committed to wrestle at Corban University in Salem, Oregon.

Johansen becomes the second female from Sandpoint to receive a scholarship to wrestle collegiately.

The sport has grown rapidly across the U.S. and in the state over the last few years and Johansen has helped usher in a new age of girls wrestling at SHS.

Johansen is a Greco, Freestyle and Folkstyle state champion. She has placed twice at the Idaho Girls Wrestling Finals and has been a national team member four times, according to a Facebook post by Corban Wrestling.

Corban is a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference in the NAIA.
