Man accused of pulling gun during dispute

OLDTOWN — A preliminary hearing is set in the case of a man who allegedly pressed the muzzle of a revolver into the stomach of another man outside an Oldtown bar last month.

Joseph Burnham Quinn is charged with aggravated assault, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Quinn, 32, is accused of pulling the gun on the man at the entrance to Club Rio on Sept. 11. A probable cause affidavit alleges Quinn was arguing with his ex-girlfriend outside Club Rio and was preventing her from entering the bar. The alleged victim pushed the door open and ordered Quinn to leave.

Quinn drew the revolver and shoved it into the man's stomach, the affidavit said. The alleged victim did not see the object and believed he was being stabbed. Quinn's ex, however, told deputies that she saw the firearm and described it as a silver revolver with wooden handle, the affidavit said.

Surveillance video showed Quinn withdrawing something from his pocket, but the angle of the camera did not allow the firearm to be seen, according to court documents.

Quinn left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, leading to the issuance of a $100,000 arrest warrant, which was served on Oct. 26.

A hearing to determine whether the state has enough evidence to justify a trial is set for Nov. 4.
