BILL BROCKUS RETIRES FROM ROUTE 1

Tomorrow Bill Brockus closes out a 32-year career as a rural mail carrier which began July 5, 1938. But that wasn’t the start of his postal career. He began as a special delivery carrier in June 1934, while still in high school. He became a town carrier in 1936, and in 1938, began working Route 1. Back then, the 36-mile route took him 4½ - 5 hours to drive. Now the 69.6 mile route requires 8½ - 9 hours. Sunday was a big day for Mr. and Mrs. Brockus, who were honored at a coffee hour at Sandpoint Community hall by 432 patrons and friends on Route 1. Kitty Timblin, Miss Sandpoint, whose father, Bud Timblin, takes over the route tomorrow, handled the guest book.

FOOTBALL TOMORROW

The high school football team expects to put over a victory when they go against Spirit Lake’s high school team tomorrow afternoon on the Northern Pacific field at the foot of Bridge street. The old field has been put in good condition by the high school student body and will be fast unless an unusual amount of rain falls during the night. Team pep runs high and the cheer division has arranged a rally for this evening in preparation for some early yell stuff tomorrow.
