Let's take control of our future this election

| September 3, 2020 1:00 AM

One is always hearing that Election Day is X number of days away. In Idaho the election starts Sept. 18. That’s when absentee ballots will be mailed to those who have requested them. If you want to avoid potential delays or shenanigans, fill out your ballot as soon as it’s received and return it to your county elections office personally.

Here in Bonner County we have five contested elections. There is one state senator, two state representative, the county sheriff, and one county commission race. For obvious reasons I’ll start with the county commissioner race. The incumbent is half of the reason that the county is involved in a lawsuit against the city of Sandpoint costing the Bonner County taxpayers in excess of $200,000 so far. It seems that a decided minority is once again trying to push its agenda to the detriment of all.

In the race for sheriff the incumbent is a staunch "constitutional sheriff." He thinks that this makes him able to choose which laws to enforce and he is the highest law enforcement officer in the state. I’ve always thought that the state’s attorney general held that position.

The two incumbent state representatives have histories of representing fringe groups rather than all of Bonner and Boundary constituents.

Let us take control of our future and vote for Steve Johnson for county commissioner, Cindy Marx for sheriff, Gale Bolin for state representative position A, Stephen Howlett for state representative position B and Vera Gadman for state senator.
