Here's to you, Joe Biden

| September 17, 2020 1:00 AM

Dear Joe,

Please hire me as one of your speechwriters as I believe you have gotten off track. I am a Vietnam veteran, U.S. Army correspondent/photographer (1968 and 1969), journalist for 40 years and speechwriter. Following is an example of my work, with apologies to the song "Mrs. Robinson" sung by Paul Simon on Joe DiMaggio Day at Yankee Stadium in 1999:

Where have you gone Joe Biden, man,

you're sinking when you get so low

and let yourself be taken down,

responding and accusing the other guy.

Don't bother dragging in our memory

all of his mistakes.

Lift yourself up Joe Biden, man,

tell us all of the good things you will

do so well when you take office.

Cast a spell on us and make us

want you so that we forget the other man

and all his phony rhetoric and denials.

Please make us love you Joe Biden, man,

and not just hate the other guy.

We're waiting for you to shine,

not be blemished by the gutter talk,

and try to be more like JFK.
