Sept. 22, 1970 – IN NEW QUARTERS
The Idaho State Liquor Dispensary moved Thursday into the new IGA building. The store, managed by Earl Charlton, has been in the Sandpoint Ice & Fuel building on Fifth Ave. since last winter when the old IGA building burned to the ground. The new dispensary is the most modern in Idaho. The lobby has a bright indoor-outdoor carpet with a yellow-orange cast and the birch counter has a Formica top.

WILL FINISH SOUTHSIDE CLASSROOMS
School board trustees approved completion of two more classrooms at Southside school. Plans had been to complete four classrooms, with two rooms left unfinished, but increased enrollment this fall proved the need for additional space. The completed building will now have six classrooms. The contractor is presently giving priority to the school’s reconstruction. Walls are up and the roof is underway.

SUSAN PHILLIPS IS 1970 VALENTINE GIRL
Beta Sigma Phi, Idaho Nu Chapter, met in the home of Mrs. Deana Wilmes Tuesday with 24 members and sponsor, Margaret Walker, present. President Mary Verdal led the meeting. Susan Phillips was named 1970 Valentine Girl. Dessert was served by Helen Hagadone, co-hostess. Next meeting will be in the home of Kay Crouse with Patsy Coffelt, co-hostess.

Sept. 22, 1920 – COUNTY FARM REPORT
Supt. G.M. Potter of the county poor farm made his 1919 report to the county commission, showing much progress in making the farm self-sustaining. The total county charges for the year came to 3458 days. Farm equipment increased and farm products production was very good. Improvements include 1970 ft. of ditching, 1350 ft. of fencing, 1360 ft. of rebuilt fencing, nine double gates, five and one-half acres cleared and the construction of a portable derrick costing $120.

DOVER LOCAL F.U. COMMUNITY FAIR
Dover local of the Farmers’ union will hold a community fair at their hall near the S.I. railroad crossing on Lake street Saturday. The fair is open for all the people in the Sandpoint vicinity and ribbons will be placed on items in the following classes: Fruits, vegetables, grains, grasses, baked goods, dairy products, eggs and needlework. The public is earnestly asked to participate in the friendly contest. Exhibits should be in by noon Saturday. Don’t forget.

TRANSCONTINENTAL HIGHWAY
Orville Mason of Glasgow, Mont. was here in connection with marking the trail of the Roosevelt highway through Bonner county. The trail extends from Portland, Me., to Portland, Ore. The other transcontinental highways are the Lincoln and the Garfield, but only the Roosevelt takes in Sandpoint, and in scenery it tops the other two.
