Girls soccer unable to break through against Lumberjacks

PRIEST RIVER — Despite having 16 shots on goal, Priest River girls soccer was unable to find the back of the net during Tuesday's game against St. Maries and lost 2-0.
Head coach Rob Lawler said his team struggled to find a rhythm in the first half and lack of possession allowed the Lumberjacks to score in the 14th minute and take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Lawler said the Spartans passed the ball better in the second half and had more scoring chances, but they couldn't capitalize.
"Unfortunately, the ball would just not go through the posts for us," he wrote in an email.
Makia Fitzmorris had 13 saves in net. Lawler said Hannah Palfrey and Hannah Larson made several key defensive plays to keep the match close and Samantha Pound and Halie Moore stood out offensively.
The Spartans (0-5, 0-4 IML) head to Coeur d'Alene Charter 3:45 p.m. Saturday.
