PRIEST RIVER — Priest River golf was eight strokes away on the boys side from taking down Kellogg in Monday's Intermountain League match at the Ranch Club Golf Course.

The Spartan boys had a team score of 337, while the Wildcats tallied a 330 to place first.

"All-in-all we're still in the hunt for a league championship," head coach Dan Buttrey said, "and we'll just keep playing the best we can and see where it ends up."

The four IML teams played the nine-hole course twice. Par was set at 66 for the boys, and 72 for the girls.

Luke Butler led the way for the Spartans, carding a 77 (+11) to secure second as an individual. He played at the No. 3 spot for Priest River.

Buttrey said Butler accomplished all the goals he set for his round.

"He played very well," Buttrey said.

Kameron Salesky shot an 83, Bowen Fegert recorded an 88, Jace Yount tallied an 89 and Brady O'Brien had a 98.

On the girls side, Bonners Ferry took home the team title with a 389. Only two golfers hit the course for the Spartans — Olivia Hoepfer and Brooklyn Best.

Hoepfer carded a 113 and Best recorded a 119 in her season debut for Priest River.

By the end of the year, Buttrey expects to have a full varsity squad for the girls, he just wants his younger golfers to play a few more JV matches before bringing them up.

"I thought the home match went really smoothly," he said.

Priest River heads to Pinehurst Golf Course on Thursday for the third IML match this season.
