Candidate questions library district's mask policy

| April 15, 2021 1:00 AM

The East Bonner County Library’s controversial mask policy masquerades as a matter of individual responsibility to health and safety. Its mask policy is, at its foundation, a failure of board and director governance.
Director Ann Nichols, an unaccountable bureaucrat, was given the ability to impose federal directive, circumventing state and local authority. This has created a situation where taxpayers are discriminated against and criminalized for desiring to retain their constitutional right to be free in their person, places, and effects. The EBCL Board of Trustees has relinquished its authority to make the policy, allowing a broad reach with no functional criteria for repeal or exemptions.

The county passed a resolution not to enforce restrictions of access if not wearing a mask. Then just days before the March 27 peaceful protest, Panhandle Health District repealed its mask mandate. The consensus is that the threat has been relieved, the curve has been flattened, and the questionable science is an open book.

It is time for the East Bonner County Library to fully open, celebrate life, and welcome all of its patrons back. If you agree, vote for Kathy Rose on May 18 for library trustee.

KATHY ROSE
