After God's Heart announces Bible study

| August 19, 2021 1:00 AM

After God’s Heart will begin its new study — this year on the Gospel according to Matthew — on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021. All women are welcome.

After God’s Heart, a community Bible study for women, alternates each year between the Old and New testaments.

The first book in the New Testament, is written by Matthew, a Jewish tax collector, who left everything to follow Christ. He wrote as an eyewitness of many of the events he described, giving firsthand testimony about the words and works of Jesus of Nazareth.

As one of the original 12 apostles, he brings a unique flavor of the Old Testament to this book, by showing Christ, the son of David, as the fulfillment of 60 prophecies from that time, Barbara Rohland said. This proved He was truly their long-awaited Messiah, King of the Jews, whom the prophets foretold would come to save the world. At the same time, His rejection by Israel’s religious leaders is also a constant theme in this gospel, showing us what we should never do. From the flight into Egypt to the scene at the cross, the shadow of their rejection is never lifted from the story.

*The evidence of the true identity of Jesus is overwhelming in Matthew,” she said. “As the Son of God, He shows us one compassionate miracle after another, as He healed the brokenhearted, and fed thousands of hungry people. He also had to be the perfect Son of Man to die on that terrible cross in place of all who would believe in Him. It’s hard to read about His sufferings. But He rose again and was seen by many. He did so much in His 30 short years on earth. By His sacrifice, He reconciled all true believers to God, and glorified His Father, in heaven. In the end, Jesus left His followers, including believers today, with the Great Commission: to spread the gospel of grace through faith in Jesus Christ to a needy world.”

Rohland said Matthew also portrays Jesus Christ as the victorious King who will one day return at the end of the age, “on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” All who believe in Him have a glorious future.

After God’s Heart is led by women from various churches who believe it is a blessing for them to meet together “with one accord” to study God’s inerrant Word. The group is not affiliated with any one church. It raises up leaders and encourages women to serve in their own churches. This women’s Bible study has been an ongoing study in the community for the last 30 years. AGH encourages old and new members to join them in worship, fellowship, and Bible study.

“Like last year, we will be doing everything we can to keep each of you feeling safe in our environment if you decide to come,” Rohland said. “We will again offer a remote way to study from home.”

Questions can be directed to Rohland at 208-290-3729.

AGH meet on Wednesdays, 9-11 a.m., at North Summit Church, 201 N. Division in Sandpoint. It meets in the old South Building, those attending should enter through the front on Division. The group takes a break from Thanksgiving to New Year’s and will conclude this study in May. There is free childcare from birth to kindergarten. Cost for the year’s study is $15, but scholarships are available.
