History books ready
More than two tons of Bonner County History Books arrived in Priest River last week by motor freight. These books will be given out only to people who have reserved them in advance. The occasion will be commemorated with cookies and coffee at city hall.

Fire at the junior high
The first fire in the 40-plus year history of Priest River Junior High didn’t get out of hands thanks to the quick action of several teachers. The fire broke out in the annex workshop. It was confined to a wood storage cabinet. It was only noticed because there was a class of students in the adjoining classroom.

New bleachers planned
Drawings of the proposed new bleachers for the Priest River High School athletic field are nearly completed and the fund drive will be launched soon after Christmas. So far $300 has been pledged.

Livestock association meets
The Falls Livestock Association met at the Falls Ranger Station Friday night for their annual business meeting. This get-together has always been well-attended and helps to develop good management of our grazing resource. More cattle are grazed on the Falls District than any other district on the Kaniksu National Forest.

Rudolph brings arrest
Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, brought arrest to Mark Richeson of the Albeni Falls Club when the local conservation officer made the arrest for having a deer on the premises. The fawn had been kept through the summer in anticipation of the children’s Christmas party. The case has been postponed, and it is hoped that that the club can keep the deer until after the party.
80 Years Ago — 1941
With the United States now at war, it is improbable that the CCC camps in this section will again be used for some time. The matter of turning them into detention or concentration camps was discussed at the Chamber of Commerce meeting Monday night.
90 Years Ago — 1931
Cranking car dangerous
Delbert Moe, Priest River’s baker, received injuries Friday when attempting to start his car. The car had been left in gear. Ordinarily, the car had to be cranked considerably before it would start. This time one turn of the crank was enough to start it forward, Dell being struck by the bumper and pinned against the cement wall. Aside from a decided limp, Dell is none the worse for the mishap.
100 Years Ago — 1921
Guilty as charged
“Bonner County has more liquor cases in federal court than any of the other county in the panhandle,” said Sheriff Kirkpatrick. The sheriff and Deputy Kuchenbecker returned from Coeur d’Alene last night from the Aldo Newcomb trial. He was found guilty of operating a still in the Priest River Valley. All other cases (eight in number) to be tried in federal district court from this section have been set for trial at the spring term.
