A special enrollment period for uninsured Idahoans will run from March 1 to March 31 to allow for more people to get health insurance, according to a press release from Your Health Idaho.

Too many people are still uninsured as the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 approaches in Idaho, said Your Health Idaho Executive Director Pat Kelly.

“Reopening the marketplace and providing Idahoans with a path to comprehensive health insurance is simply the right thing to do,” Kelly said.

The announcement means Your Health Idaho will be joining all state-based marketplaces and the federal marketplace in offering a special enrollment period in consideration of the pandemic’s impact, according to the press release.

Your Health Idaho is also the only place that offers a health insurance tax credit, according to the press release. Monthly tax credits are calculated based on household income and size, and act as an instant discount on health insurance premiums.

Over 80% of individuals enrolled in Your Health Idaho are eligible for a reduced cost in insurance, Kelly said, and some pay nothing.

Those who are interested in registering can complete an eligibility screening to find out if they qualify for tax credit at YourHealthIdaho.org.

“It never hurts to check,” Kelly said.

Idahoans can begin applying for tax credit at any time, even though the special enrollment period only begins on March first, according to the press release.

Those who enroll during this period will have coverage starting April 1 of this year.
