Jan. 3, 1971 – YOUNG SINGERS

Grades 1-4 of the Seventh-day Adventist school sang “Away in a Manger” at the school program Dec. 27. Singers included Sheryl Snyder, Mike Kubecka, Mya Mosher, Donnie Siemsen, Sarah Jaeger, Jerry Munce, Melanie Schulze, Johnny Hayes, Janie Tucker and Shane Blood.

SGT. COONS FAMILY HOME FOR HOLIDAY

Sgt. and Mrs. Robert Coons and children, Leslie Ann and Leon Robert came from Lewistown, Mont. to spend Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Coons. Sgt. Coons is stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, where the family has been living. They had visited her parents in Lewistown.

LPNs ENJOYED CHRISTMAS DINNER

Sandpoint’s Licensed Practical Nurses Assn. held its annual Christmas party in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Lockwood. A turkey dinner with all the trimmings was enjoyed, followed by a gift exchange. Members present were Mrs. C. Berry, Mrs. A. Perkins, Mrs. O. Bonar, Mrs. G. Spiller, Mrs. McIntosh, Mrs. V. Clary, Catherine Girtman, Mrs. R. Lund and Mrs. J. Gallaher.

Several from Dover attended the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ellsworth in Sandpoint. Mrs. Ellsworth is the former Miss Terry Chronic, granddaughter of Mrs. Effie Becker of Dover.

Almost 1000 children received apples and bags of candy and nuts Friday at a party at city hall managed by Police Chief Bratton who raised about $120 among the merchants and lumberjacks.

ASKED TO PROVIDE FOR 25 ORPHANS

Headed by Mrs. Donald Steward of Sandpoint, Bonner county residents are raising funds to provide a whole year’s care for 25 unfed and homeless orphans through the Near East relief committee. These are children left stranded and starving by war famine and massacre – orphans of America’s Armenian comrade in the world war. It will cost $60 each to care for them for a year in near east orphanages, an even $1500 for the entire number allotted to this county for relief.

FR. KELLY 65 YEARS OLD

Rev. Fr. Kelly was 65 years of age Dec. 25 and observed the day by celebrating midnight mass and holding services at Bonners Ferry. He has had charge of the parish which includes Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry for the past 19 years. When Fr. Kelly first came to the area, he was associated with Fr. Purcell, now of Post Falls. Fathers Kelly and Purcell had charge of a parish that included Rathdrum, Harrison, Bonners Ferry, Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint and Priest River. The next year the parish was divided and Fr. Kelly’s parish included Sandpoint, Priest River and Bonners Ferry.
