Binkley boys turn old-looking Ford into sled

100 Years Ago — 1921

Driving a Ford-sled

The Binkley boys, George and Walter, have been chauffeuring an old-looking Ford around on the streets of the city for the past week. They have equipped one of the products of Henry Ford’s factory with a set of heavy sled runners in place of the ordinary front wheels. Before the runners had become slick, locomotion with it was rather slow; but continued use has smoothed off the runners and now they can make good time.

90 Years Ago — 1931

Nordman road in poor condition

The stage to Coolin couldn’t make it on account of the sudden thaw and rain. The road to Nordman is in very poor condition and travel is slow. A hint of premature spring, bringing warm weather and soft roads, has played havoc with the lumbering industry. Men are being sent out of the woods because of the impossibility of logging on soft ground.

80 Years Ago — 1941

President’s ball successful

The President’s Ball went over in a big way in Priest River. Dances were held in two halls, and a large crowd is reported. Around $170 was received.

70 Years Ago — 1951

Groundbreaking set for dam

Friday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. is the is the date set for groundbreaking ceremonies at Albeni Falls Dam site. Ceremonies will be held at the former Cupic place, from which a full view of the falls is had.

60 Years Ago — 1961

State income tax man will help

Every resident of Idaho who had a gross income in 1960 of $600 or more, regardless of source, must file a State Income Tax Return, and every non-resident who has a gross income of $600 or more from sources within Idaho must file a non-resident return. For the convenience of those who are required to file state income tax returns, a representative of the State Income Tax Division will be at Priest River City Hall on Thursday, Feb. 2, to assist taxpayers in preparing their returns.

50 Years Ago — 1971

From the West Side

Monday and Tuesday winds and rain never ceased night and day at the Peterson residence. The snow that had piled up to above the top fence wires is now down to about 10 inches or less, where it was not blown into drifts or piled up. Under trees and brush in places it is bare. January thaw or Chinook was what this used to be called.

40 Years Ago — 1981

Snowfall welcome

The first significant snowfall since mid-December deposited up to two inches of snow in the area — not much for an ordinary year, but it brought hopes of closer to normal weather patterns in February.

30 Years Ago — 1991

Liberating Kuwait

The liberation of Kuwait may be an overseas operation, but it is hitting home in Priest River. Sgt. Bill Moore of Laclede, S.P.C. Michael Cliff, Edward Cliff, and Army Pfc. Justic Trost are all now serving in the Middle East.

Silly but fun

Chelsea Barrett wins the Oscar for her dramatic performance in the PRLHS Drama Club’s weekend production the “The Really Hip Adventures of Go-Go Girl.” Or to quote District 83 Superintendent Dr. Joe Malletta, “That girl was a kick, wasn’t she?”
