Annual Run for the Berries fast approaching

| July 21, 2021 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — The Run for the Berries Fun Run, the annual kick-off event for the Timber Days celebration, is set for Saturday, July 31 at Priest River Park.

The 5K and 10K will start at 8 a.m. and the mile will begin at 8:15 a.m. Awards for the top three finishers in each age group will be handed out during a ceremony at the park's gazebo at 10 a.m. Competitors can also treat themselves to a huckleberry pancake breakfast after the event.

Proceeds from the fun run benefit the Priest River cross country team. Head coach Lance Clark said this is the team's biggest and most important fundraiser of the year.

The funds from the race will help the Spartans pay for equipment and other activities, such as a day at the Silverwood Theme Park.

Clark said the team needs parent volunteers for registration, water stations, timing and finish line work at the race. Priest River cross country athletes will get to run the 5K for free for helping set up the course and cleaning up after.

The Spartans will hold a team BBQ at PRLHS from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28 to help athletes sign-up for the 5K.
