July 25, 1971 – PROUDLY WE SALUTE…

Raymond R. Durfee, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy R. Durfee, Sandpoint, has been promoted to Army Spec. 4. He serves near Bad Hersfeld, Germany, as a driver in Troop K, 3rd Squadron, 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment.

Ronald D. Larson, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar L. Larson, Sandpoint, recently was promoted to Army Spec. 5 near Chu Lai, Vietnam, where he is a member of Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Division,18th Artillery.

Army Pvt. Ladimer B. Mischenko, son of Mr. and Mrs. Borys Mischenko, Priest River, completed the first phase of training under the modern volunteer Army Field Experiment at Ft. Ord, Calif. The new concept, Volar, combines basic and advanced individual training into a single 16-week program.

ROTARIANS VISIT 21st CENTURY

At the Sandpoint Rotary Club meeting, Rotarian Wallace Staglund presented a color film “The 21st Century,” featuring possible communications systems of the future and how they will link the people of the world through satellites, laser beams, holographic transmissions and other methods.

July 25, 1921 – BEACH CLEANUP MONDAY

The bathing beach committee plans to begin a cleanup of the beach at 1 p.m. tomorrow, with a picnic lunch at the evening dinner hour. Thomas Wyatt will have charge of the men’s bath-house and will operate a canteen. Monday, besides his regular stocks of candies and soft drinks, he will have “hot dogs,” ice cream, lemonade, coffee and doughnuts. An expert swimmer, he will have supervision of the beach. Mrs. Wrinkle, paid by the Civic club, will have charge of the women’s bath-house.

ELKS PLAN CELEBRATION

Plans for the Elks third annual home coming celebration, Sept. 1 - 3, are beginning to take definite form. A Nash-six will be given away to the holder of the lucky number on a dance ticket. Pantages vaudeville will be brought here for one day and night, and three days of baseball are promised. Parades and Mardi Gras features will have prominent places in the events.

CLARKSFORK NEWS

A fishing party consisting of Dr. J.D. Guy, Allen P. Asher, George R. Barker and W.P. Brashear left Sunday for a week’s fishing trip on the north fork.

Doc Morris and family of Sandpoint visited at the home of Mrs. Morris’ parents, the Joe Fosters.

Glen Hatcher, Thomas Charrey and James White have gone to the east fork for the summer.
