3 tied for lead after day 1 of PNGA Men's Amateur Championship

SANDPOINT — Three players are tied atop the leaderboard after the first round of the 119th Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship at The Idaho Club.

Jaden Cantafio of Orange, California, Brady Arnett of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Cullen Brasfield of La Quinta, California all shot a 2-under-par 69 on Monday.

Joey Lovell, a 2006 Sandpoint High grad who recently won the Montana State Amateur Championship, sits in a tie for 81st with an 8-over-par 79.

The 145 players currently in the tournament will be cut down to 64 following the second round on Tuesday. The championship will shift to single-elimination match play on Wednesday until a champion is crowned on Saturday.

The difficulty of The Idaho Club shined through on the first day. Only six players are under par.
