The Kootenai ball team beat Hope 15 to 5 on the Kootenai grounds Sunday.
Sunday’s heat drove nearly everybody in town to the beaches. There were 55 people in one picnic party at the fish hatchery. They added a ball game to the list of amusements for the afternoon.

ADVERSE WEATHER RUINS BEACH OPENING
Because Monday was the only day of the summer marked by inclement weather, the chamber of commerce’s beach picnic and opening was not the success it should have been. A cold wind blowing across the beach discouraged participation in the opening ceremonies and few picnic parties spread their comestibles on beach sites. Bathers taking to the water numbered but few over a score. Since Monday, the weather has been fair and warm and the usual large numbers of bathers are daily taking to the water, bringing the beach again into its own.

FORESTRY MEN WILL GO WITHOUT SMOKES
Realizing the danger of forest fires from burning tobacco even when used in the woods by forest officers, District Forester Morrell has called upon the field men of the national forests of Montana and Northern Idaho to refrain voluntarily from smoking during the next few months of extreme fire danger.
Supervisor Fitzwater, in charge of the local forest office, who is a smoker, “swore off” two months ago at the opening of the fire hazard season.
