The Library helps you make the most of summer

Summer in Sandpoint is a glorious time and the East Bonner County Library District is here to help you make the most of it!

Gardening: Here at “The Library,” we have been working hard on weeding, planting, and finishing up our many outdoor projects in our beautiful garden, so that we may open it up to the public later this month. On June 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., there will be a hands-on workshop, held in the garden, titled “Composting: From Waste to Resource.” We will be covering composting methods, materials, and how to construct bins. We are planning to utilize the garden space for many more activities, for both children and adults, so keep checking out our events schedule online for further information.

Inside The Library, we have a wide variety of books on every aspect of gardening: pest control, weeding, pruning, planting, maintenance, and of course, enjoying the final results!

Travel: While we may be under restrictions globally on where we might travel, happily for us in Sandpoint, we live in an area that other people come to for vacations. Whether you have the time for a long hike or a short bike ride, want to visit a hot spring, or take a camping tour in your RV, we have the resources in The Library to help you plan a getaway. We are also happy to help you pick out a relaxing beach read, or find some entertaining audiobooks to make a long road trip more enjoyable.

Food: For cookouts, barbecues, picnics, no-cook meals, or refreshing icy treats for yourself or the kiddos, The Library's food section has something for every taste, gathering size, or level of ability. If you can’t get to The Library, or are inspired to cook in the middle of the night (when it’s cooler!), we have a great selection of recipes online in our A to Z Food America and World Food databases. All are free and downloadable.

So be sure to check out The Library before you plan your garden, vacation, or next meal! Then head outside to enjoy the brief, but magical, Sandpoint summer.
