Theft of antlers makes home seem less secure

| June 17, 2021 1:00 AM

To whom it may concern, I hope you need them more than we do. My wife and I returned home the other evening and much to our astonishment found that the four deer sheds that adorned our entry gates had been stolen.

We have lived just outside of Hope for almost a decade and found those sheds on our property when we first moved here. The gates are garden gates left by the previous owners which we re-purposed them to announce the entry to our driveway. The antlers gave them a rustic look that we both enjoyed.

Please look around and if you see two sets of antlers that have suddenly appeared in your area know there is a good chance they were stolen from us. We would love to have them back. If you are new to the area and are decorating all I can say is find your own antlers. My wife is soon to have additional surgery on her knee and I had brain surgery in January. Needless to say we are not in shape to hike the woods to find replacements.

We have always tried to look on the bright side of every situation, but this event seems very dark. Not only did we lose the antlers, but we lost the sense of security on our own property. I guess I will have to remove the welcome sign that you see as you drive in and replace with a sign announcing you should enter the property at your own risk because the owners could very well be armed and they are not as friendly as they once were.
