Do you enjoy using technology? How about helping others?

Even if you don’t consider yourself particularly tech-savvy, you might know enough to help someone who knows less than you to learn the basics. All it takes is patience and a willing heart. If this describes you, then please consider applying to volunteer at the Sandpoint Library as a tech tutor.

Tech tutors donate time to assist people with devices or software in which they are comfortable. You tell us what you are good at and what you might enjoy teaching, and The Library will match you with someone seeking that particular kind of assistance. Tech tutors typically choose a two- or three-hour block of time each week to make themselves available for half-hour or one-hour appointments.

Even if you’re not really a “techie,” you might be surprised by how much you know and how much you are able to share with someone else. Often, people just need help getting started. For example, someone might need basic assistance getting comfortable with their new laptop, tablet, or e-reader. Or, maybe a refresher on simple internet navigation, using Gmail or other email programs, or searching YouTube or online shopping sites. People also need help using social media, completing online job applications, writing resumes and using software like Microsoft Office, Google Drive, or photo editors.

All tech tutors get screened and trained through The Library’s volunteer department. All scheduling and tutoring space is provided by The Library and as a tutor, you become part of The Library’s volunteer force and are an important asset to the community. The many benefits of volunteering include a healthy social outlet, a sense of purpose, and potential work experience.

If you love technology and want to use your skills for good, you might be a great fit as a tech tutor at The Library. Start by filling out a volunteer application at www.ebonnerlibrary.org. Scroll down to the bottom of the homepage under “support” and click “volunteer.”
