MickDuff's Brewing hosting barbecue competition

| June 25, 2021 1:00 AM

The first Inland Northwest MickDuff’s BBQ Championship is Saturday, thanks in part to sponsor Mountain West Bank.

The competition will be held at MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St. The hall will open at 11 a.m. and cookers will be on site cooking all day.

“This has been our dream for many years. We love barbecue and are excited to bring this year 1 event to downtown Sandpoint,” said Duffy Mahoney, co-owner of MickDuff’s. “Please come down, support the competitors, grab a pint and a dish from the vendors! It’s going to be a really fun day watching these pit masters work!”

Food vendors include The Meat Shack by Rob Thoreson and Smokesmith Bar-B-Que by Sean Smith, as well as Post Fall’s Iverson’s Smoking Pig BBQ. Live Music starts at 2 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m.

If you’re looking for something to do, come join the fun that’s open to all ages, event director Mack Deibel said.

“Our goal is to provide a fun and professional event in year one and grow this into the next big staple summer event to help us kick-off summer in Sandpoint,” Deibel said. “We’re excited to crown the First Annual INW MIckDuff’s BBQ Grand Champion and award nearly $2,000 in Cash and Prizes!”

Competitors will be loading-in between 6-7 a.m. to start cooking all day, turning in their competition half-chicken at 1:30 p.m. and spare ribs at 3 p.m. The dishes will be judged on appearance, taste and tenderness.

The public is asked to give competitors some space unless they invite you to do so as they may be busy meeting the turn-in times.

Live music with Pamela Jean from 2-4 p.m. and Kevin Dorin from 6-9 p.m. Jean is a rockin’ country music star. Kevin Dorin is locals favorite blues and rock ’n’ roll recording artist, whose songs are infused with tradition, in elegant simplicity.

Looking to compete? There’s still room with two spots left. Go online to www.MickDuffs.com/bbq-cookoff for more information on what it takes to compete!

To join the fun, head down to MickDuff’s Beer Hall any time between 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and stay late for more barbecue and great tunes.
