Charles Quenzer Jr., 81
Charles Quenzer Jr., 81, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021, at his home in Ponderay, Idaho.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint, Idaho, with Pastor Jess Whetsel of the Kootenai Community Church officiating. A potluck celebration will be held at the Ponderay Event Center from 1-3 pm.
Charles was born on September 27, 1939, in Queens, N.Y., to Charles and Dorothy Quenzer. He grew up and attended school in New York, where he played high school football. He worked for United Combustion before serving in the United States Army.
Charles married the love of his life, Linda Pearson, on October 29, 1961. He owned and operated Quenzer Homes, Inc. The family moved from Long Island to Sandpoint in 1977 and founded the Hoot Owl Cafe. Charles was always working and did whatever it took to provide for his family. He built houses, worked at area lumber mills, owned the Putt A-Round miniature golf course, and worked for Litehouse, Inc.
If you asked Charles how he was, his answer was always, “I’m fine.” His other favorite saying was, “One day at a time.”
He was a member of the Sandpoint Lions Club, enjoyed hotrods and designed the logo for the Suffolk Saints Drag Racing group, of which he was a part. He also enjoyed golfing, riding motorcycles, wintering in his RV, and going on cruises with Linda. He was also an avid New York Jets fan.
He is survived by his three children, Denise (Bruce) Anderson of Eatonville, Washington, Linda Jean “Lj" (Scott) Sams of Sandpoint, and Curtis (Bobbi) Quenzer of Sandpoint; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Cathy Nook of Long Island, New York; and two brothers, Bob (Mary) Quenzer of Long Island, and Richard (Rhonda) Quenzer of Paragould, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda Quenzer, and sister Dorothy Altman.
